Resident Spotlight:
Mr. and Mrs. W. came into the shelter, like many others: homeless with barely any clothing, no jobs, and three kids. But their spirit was not broken. With help from Dwelling Place Case Managers and Children's Services Coordinator, the W. family was able to leave the shelter renewed. The Dwelling Place provided clothing for the family since theirs were destroyed from improper storage. Case Managers also worked with Mr. and Mrs. W until they were successful at finding employment. She started working in an accounting firm and he began a job at Norshipco. The Children's Services Coordinator was able to get the children, ages 7, 4, and 18 months, into daycare. The four year old was also referred to James Monroe for speech and developmental delays. There, he was able to get into an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) so he could go to a preschool to address his special needs. More good fortune came to the W. family as they were able to find permanent housing. The Dwelling Place was able to give them furniture that had been received from community donations. "We thank The Dwelling Place for providing us with a safe stable place to lay our heads. We now appreciate each other much more and we realize that only a few things are essential for life. And we have these things in each other." |
