Chistopher McElroy creates Christmas in July.
Children in Compassionate Action
Each week Christopher McElroy distributes his weekly allowance of $5 between three boxes - "Bank," "Buy," and "Give Away." The money is earned through completing chores at $.25 a chore. Extra chores garner extra wages. Money placed in the "Give Away" box is matched by his parents. Mrs. McElroy states that she wants Christopher to grow up understanding that many people struggle to achieve self-sufficiency - not everyone is fortunate to have their own house or bedroom. This past summer, Christopher arrived at our doorstep with his arms full of presents for the children of The Dwelling Place.
This was quite a special moment for the families living here in July! Christopher introduced himself to moms and their children and gave out presents with a natural ease - shaking hands with those he met.
This was the Christmas spirit made evident on a sunny day in July at The Dwelling Place. When I spoke with Christopher afterward, he stated that "[he] wants to start a magazine to show other children how to do this."
